SYUKUR USMAN Erwin Aksa might still be young, but the son af prominent business tycoon HM Aksa Mahmud and nephew of former vice president Jusuf Kalla is already a rising business guru. Erwin, now 35, was just 28 when he took over as CEO of Bosowa Corporation,primarily involved in infrastructure, toll roads, cement, automotive trading and financial service. the group deals in sectors that require an impressive level of negotiating skills and so far Edwin has gained in the business community for his professionalism. before taking over the reins from his father, Erwin proved his capailities as chairman of (HIPMI). In the election held in 2007, he successfully beat Novita Dewi and Ridwan Mustofa to replace former chairman Sandiaga Uno. A graduate in business from Pittsburgh University in Pennsylvania, the US, Erwin quickly applied his knowledge to the family business, initially of dealerships for Japanese-made Datsun and Mitsubishi in eastern Indoenesia. Today he is responsible for the sale of Malaysia's Proton and Luxury Marque mercedes Benz in Sulawesi. Committed to effciency, Erwin has reoganized his staff and recruited a team of professionals to teplace family members. Under his leadership Erwin has transformed the group from a family business into a powerful company with asset worth more than Rp 5 trillion and sales this year approaching Rp 3 trillion. Married ti Andi Fatmawati Manggabarani, before heading Hipmi Erwin chaired its Makassar branch from 2003 to 2006. This role also helped him recure the role of co-chairman od the South Sulawesi branch of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and familiarized him with managing big business deals. Kadin has traditionally been a grooming ground for the country's future leader's with many of the organization's chairman later taking up roles ini forfolios concentrating on business welfare. Golkar chairman Aburizal Bakrie, Coordinating People's Welfare Minister Agung Laksono and Abduk Latief, owner of the Pasaraya Group, all once headed Kadin at a young age. Erwin's family connection to Kalla has also aided his business prospect, especially in the motoring industry where Erwin is head of the Makassar baranch of Indonesia's Motoring Industry Association (IMI). Up until 2008, Erwin was also deputy chairman of the National construction company association (Gapensi)
