Visitors: 1219173| Official Launch Ceremony of PT Semen Batam’s Grinding Plant |

The commencement operation of PT Semen Batam’s cement grinding plant was officially launched by the Vice President of the Republic Indonesia, H.E. Jusuf Kalla, on December 2, 2008 at the company’s plant site in Kampung Baru, Batam, Riau Islands Province. Also present at the official ceremony were the Minister of Industry, Mr. Fahmi Idris, Head of the Indonesian Investment Agency, Mr. M. Lufti, and the Governor of Riau Islands, Mr. Ismet Abdullah.
The President Director of PT Semen Batam, Mr. Erwin Aksa said that during the production commissioning period, the company has already marketed its products in the Riau and Riau Islands, Batam, Jambi, Palembang, and Pontianak. “The need for cement in the island of Batam is 480,000 per year. Currently we control around 50% of the market share in Batam”, he said.
Construction of the plant started in 2006 and was completed early 2008. Currently, PT Semen Batam has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons using machineries form Germany, China, as well as Indonesian. The plant also has a loading and unloading harbor equipped with a 150 m jetty which could take in ships with 30,000 tons capacity, and 2 warehouses for storage of cement materials such 75,000 tons clinker and 20,000 tons gypsum and trass. The plant also has 2 bulks loading facilities for discharging and 2 packing equipments with a capacity of 2500 tons/day.
